This new book from Ruth Clinton, who is also involved in the stunning new Landless record, ‘Lúireach’ and also of this scribe’s favorite band from these shores, Poor Creature, has added another feather to her enviable cap with ‘This Fearless Maid 2’.
This book collects songs old and new that challenge traditional patriarchal power dynamics, with a portion of proceeds dedicated to the Women in Hebron, a female run Palestinian cooperative.
Clinton’s artistry, be it her musical expressions, painting the cover of Niamh Bury’s sublime ‘Yellow Roses’ or co-directing the video for ‘What Will Become of England’ from strident folksmith Jim Ghedi, is always beguiling and beautiful.
This book is no exception. Fiercely recommended.
