Our sister publication The Goo magazine, has recently started organising shows. Thus far, having hosted the inimitable Andy The Doorbum, the elemental U.S. folk artist, as well as Irish experimentalists Lifts and Cormorant Tree Oh, their next shows welcomes New York duo, Jim and Meredith McHugh.
Jim is perhaps best known for his genre bending psychedelic group Sunwatchers, who have forged a singular path through the famously avant garde underground of New York and found worldwide acclaim for their approach to folk and jazz. In this duo presentation, the McHughs have honed a fingerstyle guitar and vocal sound that blends virtuosity with innovation, that brought to my mind Linda Perhacs and Nick Drake, but with an almost entirely different sonic palette.
To boot, these remarkable musicians will be performing in the intimate environs of Dublin’s best kept secret of a music venue, The Hut in Phibsborough. An absolutely stellar show, with a ‘pay what you can afford’ price of entry, there’s no excuse for missing yet another once-in-a-lifetime event that our plucky little sibling threw together.
