Dlr Arts Office has just announced a call for artists to apply for two innovative funding opportunities for exclusive use of studios and artist workspaces at Dún Laoghaire Baths.
The call, which is open until noon on July 11th, includes applications for artist work spaces at dlr Visual Artists Studios, as well The Friendship Residency, a partnership between Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and two third sector organisations – Enable Ireland and St. John of God Dublin South East Services.
In addition to making a space available to artists, both funding opportunities also include a materials budget, while the latter features an opportunity for artists to develop their own individual work, while also building relationships with participants of both services.
The dlr Visual Artist Studios
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office seeks to award three artist studio workspaces for a period of one year. Two studios are available from September 2024 and one starts in March 2025.
These studios are open to visual artists working in any medium however, the artists’ working methods need to be compatible with the space available.
The selected Artists will each be awarded exclusive use of an artist’s studio in Dún Laoghaire Baths, and a materials budget of €6,500.

The Friendship Residency
A second opportunity for artists sees Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council partnering with Enable Ireland and St. John of God Dublin South East Services on The Friendship Residency, a studio residency for professional artists.
This Residency offers an artist/s access to Studio 4 (see feature image) in dlr Baths from September 2024 for 12 months. In addition to the Studio the artist/s will receive a monthly fee to support their practice, a materials budget, and a training stipend.
Explaining the background to both awards, a spokesperson for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office said, “The Residency allows the space and time to focus on the creation of the artist/s own work while also building relationships with participants from Enable Ireland and St. John of God Dublin South East Services.
The Services wish to explore the meaning of friendship today, with the artist/s, as a starting point. This Residency aims to be a positive and joyful one for all involved, a celebration of mutual trust and support, of friendship.”
