The 6th annual Stoneybatter Festival, takes place this weekend in the Dublin 7 urban village from Friday June 21st to Sunday June 23rd. The packed programme of events can be viewed here.
In addition to a range of great events, this year the Festival’s film programme celebrates the wealth of local talent in this renowned creative neighbourhood with three special event screenings at the nearby Light House Cinema in Smithfield.
On Saturday at 6.15pm, the Pat Collins acclaimed IFTA winner That They May Face The Rising Sun screens at Light House Cinema Smithfield with a special panel focusing on the outstanding world-building work of the film’s craft team.
The line-up for the discussion includes cinematographer Richard Kendrick, production designer and local resident Padraig O’Neill (Song of Granite) and costume designer Louise Stanton (The Quiet Girl) talking about creating a cinematic version of John McGahern’s literary world.
Festival goers are in for a treat on Sunday at 5pm, with the screening of exquisite nature documentary Birdsong (52 mins) directed by Stoneybatter’s Kathleen Harris who will be in the cinema to discuss the film afterwards with filmmaker Anna Rodgers (How To Tell A Secret), along with the film’s editor Iseult Howlett (In The Shadow Of Beirut) and producer Ross Whitaker (Katie, Between Land & Sea).
A terrific weekend of film wraps at 6.30pm on Sunday, as the multiple award-winning documentary musical North Circular returns to its spiritual home, followed by a special musical Q & A panel featuring the film’s star Willa White, singer Anne Buckley and director Luke McManus.
