Lawrence Carroll is a kind of storyteller through objects. And especially here, where over five interlinking rooms, we can walk through his artistic oeuvre from 1984 to 2012 – unravelling his creative history step-by-step. The real heritage of the works spans back quite some time before this, however – Carroll embraces the past lives of the objects he frequently appropriates in his art, their own histories adding further layers of meaning within his own highly personal practice, and opening temporal windows to unknown instances. Collectively, these intimate works hope to reveal quiet truths about the real subject at their core: humanity. Carroll has exhibited alongside the likes of Joesph Beuys, and appears in renowned collections such as the Guggenheim’s, but this exhibition marks a rare opportunity to catch his works in Ireland.
