The past few years of unfulfilling side projects have allowed Conor Oberst to solve the riddle of maturing his Bright Eyes project without the increasing lethargy that’s crept into his songwriting. The People’s Key is a welcome redux of Digital Ash…, his overlooked daliance with 80s electronic rock, matching the expansiveness of Cassadaga with, well, likeability. A rapprochment with his gut-spearing histrionic lyrics and this could be perfect.
