One of the finest Irish albums of the year is getting welcomed into the world tonight in the sacred surrounds of the Unitarian Church on Stephen’s Green. Owensie’s Citizens is a truly fine mix of carefully arranged vocals, subtly complex rhythms and beautifully finger-picked guitar, with just a hint of rock attitude in there for good measure. There’s more than a hint of Bossa Nova too, which is no bad thing. Complemented by a full band of strings and percussion, Owensie is sounding fuller and more confident than he ever has before and seeing the whole package in such a beautiful environment is not to be sniffed at.
Support comes from Bill Blood (Rednecks/Visionair) and Roy Duffy (Squarehead).
