Get ready for a dazzling December in Dublin City Centre. Dublin City Council is delighted to announce the welcome return of the popular Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights.
Transforming the city centre from 1st December, 2023, this year the festival will shine even brighter with incredible light installations, projections and sculptures. Walk around the city centre and see epic light features on iconic landmarks, buildings, bridges, trees, statues and throughout Merrion Square Park.
With an ever-expanding and exciting Festival programme, this year you can enjoy family favourites like Merrion Square Park as well as great new digital projections and installations on O’Connell Street, Bank of Ireland College Green, Central Bank Plaza, and the Ha’penny Bridge.
Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights promises a festive experience like no other and all are invited to bask in the glow of the unique, specially commissioned light features throughout the city centre. This year’s programme will feature designs from national and international digital artists. The locations are:

Reducing the carbon footprint is a priority so the festival uses hydrotreated vegetable oil in Merrion Square Park, the latest laser and LED technology with low power requirements and localised battery storage that will charge off-peak.
Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights at Merrion Square Park brings playfulness, interactivity, lighting, projection and stories to life in Dublin’s iconic Georgian Square from December 1st to December 22nd.
Lights will shine bright through the trees and across the grass in the park with projections adding colour and texture to the paths. A meadow of LED flowers will shine, twinkle and change colour.
Beams of light in the middle of the park will reach up to the sky and mirror balls hanging amongst the trees will send dazzling shards of light through the trees.
Inside Merrion Square Park, visitors will find angel wings along the path, a perfect picture opportunity. Visitors will also be able to interact with the characters on the fountain walls – if you dance they will dance too!
The fun continues inside the park with a giant game of Tic, Tac, Toe to enjoy. For younger visitors, storybooks throughout the park tell the tale of Ruá the red squirrel and her friends who live amongst the trees in the park.
Entry via Merrion Square East will start from 5pm each evening, with the last admissions at 9pm. There is a €2 euro per adult booking charge. Each adult ticket admits two children Tickets for Merrion Square can be purchased at dublinwinterlights.ie
5pm to 5.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday evenings will be reserved for Relaxed Viewing Tickets. This time slot is designed to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed environment, including those who identify as neurodiverse. During this slot, no music will be played, people will have more space to move around and there will be a designated sensory unit away from the lights and sounds.
