Roadmap: Swift Justice

Posted September 26, 2023 in Arts and Culture

Swift Justice is a New Yorker documentary exploring the courts and justice system of the now Taliban occupied Afghanistan directed by Irish filmmaker and photographer Ross McDonnell whose work has graced these pages before.

We are reminded of a country where, “adultery is illegal, on pain of death. Women lack the right of divorce. They are barred from owning property. They are denied inheritance. They are not allowed to pray at a mosque. A Pashtun proverb captures the ethos: ‘Women are but half-worth human beings.’”

McDonnell has teamed up with Kormac who has composed the score.
