A debut Irish solo show by renowned Canadian artist Liz Magor who more recently has worked with the likes of JW Anderson on his S/S 2020 collection. For over four decades, Magor’s practice has primarily centred on sculpture, exploring our persistent and complicated relationship with things. She divides objects into two categories “those that are provided by the world, and those that I provide by making them in the studio.” Using casting processes akin to photography, determining positives and negatives, she renders familiar objects in her studio into gypsum or rubber and often in repetition. Combining found or discarded objects and cast or amended ones, she unravels quotidian assumptions and desires.
Douglas Hyde Gallery until Sunday September 24.
