Polish wines have a long and illustrious history, but in our experience they aren’t as well-known as they might be in this part of the world. This lamentable gap in our collective knowledge is one that the organisers of the Polish Wine Fest are hoping to change as they host their second annual outing at The Fumbally Stables this weekend.
A resurgence of interest back in 2009 means that there are now almost 400 vineyards in this fledgling industry, occupying over 1500 acres, and the second edition of the Polish Wine Fest brings us up to speed on what we need to know about the region and its producers with each winery presenting labels from their portfolio.
Festival goers will have a rare opportunity to savour some of that country’s finest examples of viticulture, with a wide variety of styles to be enjoyed, including those prepared using traditional methods such as skin macerated white, fermented in qvevri.
Wine journalist Maciej Nowicki of Ferment Magazine will be on hand to turbo charge your knowledge as he hosts a brace of much anticipated masterclasses, with lots of time to meet the makers of some of Poland’s most popular wines, taste some cheese, and pick up some nice merch.
Zdrówko!
