So tell us about the story of the band so far. When did you get together and what were your ideas at the time? Have those ideas changed much since?
We met a few years ago at a spatial music gig. It was a unique kind of show and it got us talking about ideas and music and ideas in music. At some point we got around to the idea of making some together. It took about a year to get to a place where we had songs we wanted to play and since then we’ve learned a lot through playing live. Our songs and our sound is emerging and developing from these experience and we’re pretty sure it will continue to do so. It has to or its no fun.
How are you approaching HWCH? Do you have any particular hopes for the weekend?
We’re just really looking forward to seeing some bands. Its a brilliant opportunity to sample so much of what Irish music has to offer. We’re really looking forward to playing too.
I get the sense that you’re pretty into your vintage gear, is that the case? If so, what draws you to that equipment? The sound, the aesthetic?
We use new and old stuff. Vintage gear has a character and we enjoy the hands on interaction it can offer, especially with synthesisers.
Do you think of yourselves as an Irish band?
Ireland has an sparkling musical history so its hard to think of any one thing that defines a band as Irish. We’re a small country so there’s not a lot of room for diverse subcultures of music to thrive. What’s great is that despite this there is little compromise and musicians stick to their idea guns over any urge toward homogeny. To answer the question though we think of ourselves as an Irish band because that’s where we’re from.
Can you recommend three other bands people should go see at HWCH?
White Collar Boy, Solar Bears, Simon Bird
