Admittedly, our culinary adventures in Castleknock are few and far between. And our knowledge of Luttrellstown extended no further than knowing where Posh and Becks tied the knot in ’99. Therefore, a recent trip there to check out Rugged Lane, a 50-seater modern take on fine dining felt like an adventurous holiday of sorts. Firstly, we have to bow down to the wonderful interior design work of L’Estrange Designs who have created a wonderful marriage of contemporary style with bespoke touches such as plush booths, great acoustics and an eye-catching use of soft fabrics on large mirror to create a pipe effect really make the space sing. The staff were pleasant to a fault with a radiantly infectious smile from one of the wait staff. And the food? Elevated on so many levels from the Lobster Bisque, Comté with Lobster Crisp to a Beef Fillet with fondant with shallot and jus. Their Christmas menu at €59pp is tantalising and after a break in January, Rugged Lane returns in February.
