3rd Underground Cinema Film Festival – Dun Laoghaire

Underground Cinema, founded in 2009, are widely known for bringing attention to Irish filmmakers and their most unique, cutting-edge and visionary works. This year, the festival will be launched at the Pavillion Theatre on Thursday, September 13th at 7pm, showing Portrait of a Zombie as the opening film.

Until September 16th, over 100 films will be shown as part of the festival, including three world premieres and special Q&A sessions with various renowned actors and filmmakers such as Paul Fraser (My Brothers). This year’s special guest is Jack Sargeant, an important author and authority on underground an cult film.

The opening day of the festival is all about “Women in Film”, and panel discussions with women from every part of the industry will be held throughout the day. Among the guests will be director Kirsten Sheridan, and her innovative film Dollhouse will be shown at the end of the day.

One of the festival’s many highlight will be “Horror Fest”, held in celebration of Bram Stoker’s centenary, featuring a 20th anniversary screening of Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. The film will be preceded by a talk given by Dacre Stoker, a great-grandnephew of Bram Stoker.

On Sunday, September 16th, the festival will finish with the awards ceremony, followed by the world premiere of Frank Kellyand’s Derelict, the closing film of the festival.

3rd Underground Cinema Film Festival will be held from September 13th – 16th, at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire.
