Westward Ho!

As yet another Irish summer wends its way to a close, there’s still time to grab a few days away before the Rose of Tralee and Electric Picnic herald the end of the sunny season for another year.

For those who enjoy their sunsets slightly later, a trip to the West is always worth making, and the recent launch of a new venture by local fourth generation fisherman Damien O’Malley offers further opportunities to enjoy the beautiful vistas of Roundstone Bay in Co. Galway.

A trip on his boat ‘Benbaun’ provides a great vantage point to savour some stunning views and catch up with the resident wildlife, while taking in the beaches of Dog’s Bay and Gurteen, the harbour at Ervallagh and the deserted island of Inishlacken.

Expeditions range from an hour-long Eco trip, to a ‘Catch and Cook’ tour which enables participants to explore the bay over a three hour period, pulling crab and lobster pots along the way, following which the accommodating skipper will prepare, cook and serve up your seafood bounty for lunch.
