Poetry comes centre stage as poet, playwright and performer Inua Ellams brings some of his hallmark interceptions, interrogations and celebrations to the city. In association with the Abbey, Ellams will be hosting The Midnight Run (July 1), An Evening with an Immigrant (July 3), a Poetry + Film / Hack (July 5), Reel Mix (July 6 & 7) and concludes with The R.A.P. Party – Rhythm And Poetry Party (July 8). He’ll be hooking up with local artists, writers and performers such as Michelle Browne, Adam Mohamed and Chiamaka Enyi-Amadi. “Everything I am as an artist was seeded in Dublin, way out in Tallaght,” says Ellams, who spent his formative teenage years here. “My teachers in Firhouse Community College taught me about the power of language, and its ability to provide relief, community and escapism for those in need – and we are all, always in need.”
