Martin Parr is arguably Britain’s most distinguished living photographer. A true chronicler of our age, he’s also instilled humour into his countless societal observations, whether it’s a collection of boring postcards, beach culture or British food.
Parr has also been tripping over here, documenting our changing vista for 40 years.
Parr’s Ireland: 40 Years of Photography compiles these moments with wry inflections.
The accompanying book, From the Pope to a Flat White, is a terrible title and resulting in someone producing a terrible gaudy, clipart, cover including an image of a flat white.
It’s Parr, in essence, but the contrast strangles the humour for a hefty time such as this.
However, if you are willing to judge a book by more than its cover, then you’ll be well rewarded.
And sure the exhibition is free.
