Probably one of the hottest names in music over the past few years, Nicolas Jaar’s first visit to Dublin is well over-due. Anyone who caught him closing the Body & Soul festival last year will be familiar with his downtempo, lounge house disco groove and the particularly fluid way which he and his band bring that sound to life on stage.
The 22-year old’s music takes on elements of American and African jazz, minimal German techno and the blue moods of classic chill-out IDM, working them together in a mix of live musicianship and flexible electronics. It kind of sounds a mess, but it all makes perfect sense when it’s flowing from his fingertips. Whether he’s working solo or with the sons and daughters of Hollywood royalty, Jaar’s firm grasp on his own aesthetic is key to his success. It doesn’t all sound the same, but whatever it is, it always sounds like him.
Jaar will be joined on the night by fellow members of his Clown and Sunset stable, Acid Pauli and Valentin Stip.
