“It’s tough, but we are getting by… just,” is John Mahon’s sanguine appraisal of the moment he finds himself in. As a co-owner of Lucky’s and The Circular, they have adapted to the peculiar times we find ourselves in and benefitted from having existing food offerings, courtesy of Coke Lane Pizza.
“The Circular is a big and spaced out venue and while Meath Street and the area, minus the students and Guinness tourists, can be a ghost town at times, Lucky’s has a loyal bunch of customers that are keeping the lights on.”
He’s resigned to the fact that 2020 is a write-off but, being ever-inventive, he is dabbling with new offerings such as the Decent Drinks Club.
“I felt the urgency to set up something new, a platform for drinks & drink-related stuff, to try supplement our pub offerings. We’re offering take-out and collection, it’s also for people whose booking times are up or those who can drop in and have a quick browse for something with a takeaway pizza.”
