This Tuesday, the IFI are offering a rare opportunity to see Terry Gilliam’s masterpiece on the big screen. Brazil follows Sam (Jonathan Pryce) a beleagued desk clerk who dreams of escaping his humdrum life. When faulty paperwork leads to the death of the wrong person, he’s drawn into a conspiracy involving terrorism, plastic surgery and a renegade air conditioning specialist played by Robert De Niro.
Released in 1985, the film combines dystopian buracracy with Gilliam’s mischevious humour and immaculate design. Tuesday’s screening will be introduced by broadcaster Rick O’Shea.
