“A directly elected mayor for Dublin with executive powers” – Ciaran Walsh, producer at In The Company of Huskies talks to us about his highlights of 2018, hopes for the year ahead and his design heroes.

Your creative highlight of 2018?

It has to be seeing the hardest working and most passionate men in Irish Music; Mango X Mathman and their sure and steady rise.

These guys have such an infectious, pure, enthusiasm for what they do and I’m delighted to see them getting recognition.

Personally-speaking, it has to be producing a hype video for Failte’s Visit Dublin brand. We put together a great team of people with Butter Films; Yousef Eldin formerly of Mongrel Magazine directed and Le Boom, under the stewardship of Nialler9, composed a bespoke track.

It worked on every level for me and was a big departure from the usual tourist campaigns.

Your personal creative goal for 2019?

Have a shortlist of people that I want to work with and just waiting on the right project or brief to land; Subset, Andrzej Dragan, Zlata Filopovic, Brian Kenny (Lightscapes), TOUTS, Rejjie Snow, Holly McGlynn, Finn Keenan… I hope I haven’t hexed it.

You get to redesign or reimagine Dublin in one way, what would you do?

A directly elected mayor for Dublin with executive powers. Maybe give the job to the Subset guys.

How would you describe the Dublin of your dreams, in 18 words or less?

Fewer Starbucks, a braver City Council, more street art, a mono-rail and a Bone Daddies restaurant.

Three of your local creative heroes, people who people need to know about.

Mick Minogue – his recent Office of Lost and Found was an absolute joy.

Aoife Dooley – great to see her Your One Nikita develop into a animation series

Kate Nolan – a powerhouse for Irish fashion with her work with Chupi in Atrium
