Just because it’s an immediately obvious comparison does not mean it should be left unsaid: Yeasayer’s first drop from their forthcoming sophomore album bears more than a passing resemblance to Feels-era Animal Collective. But then, a hefty percentage of 2010’s indie-pop will be seen through a post-Merriweather critical filter – if any of it comes close to the winter-thawing, springtime glow of Ambling Alp, however, we could be set for a sunny year. As promising a lead single as you like, Chris Keating’s idiosyncratic vocals (drone drone drone FALSETTO) yearn over drumbeats last heard in the 80s-world-music glut and the casual hum of bumblebee synths. Joy in 128kpbs.
