Over the course of these 12 taut paeans to the majesty of distilled rock n roll, Philadelphia’s Sheer Mag achieve something very special indeed – an almost total expunging of their chosen genre’s less than becoming cultural baggage.
A little bit of grit paired with the staunch refusal to allow their tongues and cheeks to even occupy the same postcode has furnished the incendiary quintet, complete with secret weapon – howling vocalist Tina Halladay, with the ability to make a shout-along chorus that repeats “Turn it Up” appealing as opposed to eye roll inducing.
