Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa
[Warner Bros]
Released following a lengthy gestation period, Dua Lipa’s self-titled debut ticks all contemporary pop boxes.
The Londoner’s production team have worked her musings on the tribulations of relationships and heartbreak in to glossy confections of tropical house, soulful R’n’B and synthpop.
An inevitable tendency towards generic doesn’t quite compromise the album’s unadulterated pop bangers, while Lipa’s earnest vocals generally stay the right side of overwrought.
Time will tell whether Dua Lipa can establish herself as more than the latest face of digestible, disposable pop, but on this evidence she’s off to a buzzworthy start.
