Christmas on the Square returns to Merrion Square on Saturday November 26th, with a whole host of events to suit all ages and tastes. If previous years are anything to go by a great day out is in store, with a chance to soak up some seasonal atmosphere, enjoy great seasonal artisan food and bag yourself a nice selection of creative Irish-made gifts.
Early birds can start the day with complimentary mince pies courtesy of the Davenport, before meandering over for a tour of No.1 (now the American College) where Oscar Wilde spent his formative years. Those who’d like a glimpse of yuletide past can head over to Number Twenty Nine, which also plays host to a visit from the man in red. We hear there’s some gorgeous mulled wine on offer at No.53, while ten doors up at No. 63 film fans have a real treat in store with four Christmas-themed short films from French directors.
One of the highlights of the day is Irish Artisans on the Square, a Christmas market with a difference taking place in the Irish Architectural Archive at No 45. Fans of Irish craft and design looking for something that little bit special can pick up some great, high quality gifts, such as affordable contemporary art from Hens Teeth Prints and richly scented natural candles from The Bearded Candlemakers Other participants include The Dublin Honey Project and Ekotree, an award-winning maker of sustainable contemporary knitwear.
With plenty of opportunities to meet such established names as jewellery designers Chupi and A Box for my Treasure, Liadain Aiken will also showcase the intricate pattern techniques from which she creates Irish knitwear including hats and hot water bottles covers.
Winnie’s Craft Centre will also be on hand for those interested in learning how to knit some fun pieces and demonstrations will include finger and arm knitting. You can also enjoy some terrific seasonal sounds courtesy of This Greedy Pig.
