The 13th International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival

Posted May 1, 2016 in Festival Features

The International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival continues to celebrate positive LGBT identity and diversity with another terrific programme of music, dramas, comedy and dance. Now in its 13th year, this year’s programme is underpinned by a heroic cast of characters including Helen of Troy, Oscar Wilde and the modern heroes involved in passing the referendum for equal marriage.

Featuring ten performances each night over two weeks, the Festival offers a unique opportunity to witness an exciting and diverse range of Irish & International productions from the UK, USA, Canada, Iran, Germany, Spain, Greece and The Netherlands. This year, for the first time, the festival also welcomes artists living under regimes that endanger their lives as LGBT people.

This year’s programme features a host of 1916-themed productions, including a collection of Irish historical shorts and a free academic seminar detailing the forgotten role played by LGBT people and women in the events of 1916.
