Melty Week: Meltybrains?

In celebration of the band’s re-launched vinyl release Donelgal b/w IV, Meltybrains? fans are in for a week of fun activities with a MeltyMask painting master class in Phoenix Park, the 2nd annual ‘Myles Manley’ 5-a-side football tournament which kicks off at 6pm, a photography exhibition called Calling for Earl: Meltybrains? Tour Diary by Mark McGuinness opens at Darc Space on North Great George’s Street tonight, an intimate 50 person gig in Volt Studios takes place tomorrow (Thursday) and an extremely out of season Meltybrains? The Pig’s Ear presents DJ Nature with a screening of NY77: The Coolest Year in Hell

A show featuring New York’s DJ Nature, supported by Lil’ Dave, with a special screening of NY77: The Coolest Year in Hell, which is about the chaos and creativity emerging from New York in 1977 after mass murders, unemployment and major riots. NY77 looks at the emerging culture of the time, the rise of graffiti art, the emergence of hip hop, the punk scene, disco and the sexual revolution. Witness intense first-hand accounts of it all with interviews with director Henry Corra, Mayor Ed Koch and Screw magazine publisher Al Goldstein. Get tickets for the event here.

Notes from the Margins: Group Exhibition
Friday 26 June – Sunday 9 August | Gallery of Photography, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2
A group exhibition that brings together the work of five socially engaged photographers, Gavin Devine, Emma McGuire, Ciaran Dunbar, Craig Gilbert and Rory O’Neill, who address important social issues in modern Ireland. The artists present work showing individuals and communities seen as existing on the margins of society. A series of events and talks will take place over the course of the exhibition. We’ll have more coverage of this exhibition in our July issue, out next week.

Probably the hottest ticket in town for the first post-Marriage Equality Pride is Mother’s Absolut Pride Block Party.
