Joanna Gruesome

Peanut Butter

[Slumberland Records]

The legacies of punk and twee pop’s best acts are most often untied knots. The frantic innovation of acts like Suburban Lawns, The Germs and Talulah Gosh propelled them beyond their capability to evolve in new directions. Thankfully, we have revisionist bands like Joanna Gruesome with pins out to stitch these threads together. Are JG irksome, precious and kinda basic? You know it. But there’s a vitality here that makes you want to badge their shitty band name onto your bomber jacket.
