Elvis Depressedly
New Alhambra
[Orchid Tapes]
‘Could you ease up on me?’ coos main man Matthew Lee Cothran. It’s a plea that appeals to knowingly brittle, jaded aesthetic of his work. Fuller than previous outings, it still bears the sonic hallmarks of label Orchid Tapes, a deep seated, adolescent despair running through an outwardly sunny appearance. It’s the audio equivalent of a forced smile; well-meaning insincerity motivated by desire to not be burdensome. Lovely? Sure. But perhaps making more noise would do Mr. Depressedly some good.
