POTION OF OBLVION, VOL. 2

Dr. Neil O’Connor, better known as Somadrone, brings his monthly listening club-cum-club night Potion of Oblivion back to life at Pacinos from midnight on Saturday in Pacinos. Promising to delve through the history of electronic music, the night will have sets from O’Connor himself, Sunken Foal and Donal Dineen playing a selection of deep cuts from Krautrock, avant garde, cold wave and minimal electronica. If you want a glimpse of the kind of thing that they’ll be playing, check out this mix put together by Somadrone. DIMITRI FROM PARIS

Dimitri From Paris is a producer and DJ who has been working in the industry for over a decade. His sound, an eclectic mix of funk, disco and house, and rather dapper appearance is set to offer a more eccentric version of ones average night out. Best known for his reworks and take on disco classics such as Chic’s I Want Your Love and Sister Sledge’s Lost In Music. Dimitri himself promises ‘music to swing to, lovingly crafted for you ultimate aural pleasure.’ This opportunity for a Christmas boogie takes place in the revamped Andrew’s Lane Theatre, now Hangar, the latest addition to the Dublin clubbing scene, which has its very own custom built Funktion 1 sound system. BLOCK T are promising a huge christmas celebration full of a bunch of visual festive treats this saturday at The Sugar Club. They will be showing the hilarious movie Bad Santa for all those who want to just kickback along with a variety of video clip screenings by Darklight. Furthermore, the club will be packed with the hottest, most delicious musical talent including Squarehead, Bantum, Donal Dineen, DJ Rob Le-Nan and the BLOCK T DJs all accompanied by Slipdraft’s visual mapping skillz (with a ‘z’). DUBLINERS CHRISTMAS BOOK MARKET

SUNDAY 14 DECEMBER | JAMES JOYCE CENTRE, NORTH GREAT GEORGES ST | 1PM, NOON

The final event from the James Joyce Centre in a year that has celebrated the 100th anniversary of the publication of Joyce’s Dubliners takes place this Sunday with a packed schedule of readings from Senator Norris, sometime TD book reviewer Sam Coll, Mary Morrissey, Maurice Scully, the man behind the Big Book project, Jonathan Creasy, and Fighting Words. Bookwise, there’ll be publications from the likes of Tramp Press, The Stinging Fly, Swan River Press, Lilliput Press, Liberties Press, The Salvage Press, New Dublin Press, Little Island, New Island Books, Gorse and The Royal Irish Academy.
