NATE YOUNG CROP

Nate Young [Wolf Eyes]

Thursday 12 June | Block T | 8pm, €10 B.Y.O.B.

Nate Young of noisey Wire magazine staples Wolf Eyes visits Block T on Thursday evening bringing a set of synthesiser and organ soundscapes, somewhat removed from the hyper-abrasive reputation of Wolf Eyes. This performance, titled Regression, is described by the promoters as “something between European deviated concrete music tradition of the seventies, like Michel Chion in Requiem, and the most disturbing and weird Italian library recordings.” Support comes in the form of a collaboration between drummer David Lacey and keyboards/electronics dude David Donohoe. Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox

Friday 13 June | Whelans | 8.30pm | €21

Proving that everything new can be old again, pianist Scott Bradlee has become a viral pop sensation after creating a series of clips for YouTube that finds him and his musical collective Postmodern Jukebox reworking 21st century pop hits in a variety of vintage styles, most deliciously transforming Miley Cyrus’ We Can’t Stop into a 1950s-style doo-wop number. Dust off those flapper dresses and fifties skirts, this blend of retro and contemporary is bound to be a treat.

I Heart The Monster Hero Single Lunch: Concert at the Phoenix Park Bandstand

Saturday 14 June | Phoenix Park Bandstand | 2pm, Free!

Celebrating the launch of their debut single Toni Bailey ahead of the release of their debut album Rhythm & Pals, lo-fi psych rockers I Heart The Monster Hero are throwing a party in the Phoenix Park bandstand. Let’s face it, that’s an absolutely whopper idea. Good time jams on the day come in the form of “deep space psychedelic explorations” of Wild Rocket, the “progressive jam rock triforce” of Exploding Eyes and “the transcendental melodic dance duel” of Night Trap as well as the Monster Hero boys themselves. Who writes these awesome band descriptions? More details here.

Forza Italo Noite Football

Noite de Futebol: Italia vs England

Saturday 14 June | Pallas Projects + Studios, The Coombe | 8pm, €10 (with drink) / €15 (with dinner)

One of the iconic images of the Euros in 2012 was that of ice-cool bearded regista Andrea Pirlo shuffle up the penalty spot and dink a panenka into the centre of the English net, at once rendering Joe Hart’s hyperactive buffoonery redundant and destroying English confidence. The World Cup sees that epic encounter reprised in this Group D clash and the Forza boys have arranged a special summer do for the event, taking place in the Pallas Projects and Studios on the Coombe – a great spot for a summer party it must be said. There’s also going to be food and tunes on offer, with the warm-up act on the big screen (Uruguay vs Costa Rica) kicking off at 8pm and the main event kicking off at 11pm. More details here

Jamal Shabazz Street Photographer Screening + Charlie Ahean Q&A

Sunday 15 June | All City Records | 7.30pm, €10

The Discotekken crew continue their run of excellent, left-of-centre events with a screening of Jamal Shabazz Street Photographer from Charlie Ahearn producer of the seminal hip-hop film from 1983 Wildstyle which charts the exploits of graffiti artist protagonist Zoro set against the burgeoning early 1980s hip-hop scene where Fab Five Freddy, The Rock Steady Crew, Grandmaster Flash and their contemporaries all play themselves in a loosely scripted narrative/documentary combo. The screening will be followed by a questions and answer session with Charlie Ahearn. Capacity is very small so get on it.
