The Paddy’s Day weekend is upon already and there’s a whole heap of things to keep us occupied over the long weekend, and that’s not even mentioning the match in Paris on Saturday evening. Get stuck in and don’t do anything we wouldn’t do ;).
Making Space: Transform Your City
Saturday 15 March | Temple Bar | 10am – 5pm
A collaboration between Making Space, OFFSET and Absolut, Transform Your City is a celebration of Dublin as we know it and a look at what the future of our burgeoning city could look like. Share your hopes, dreams, visions, pictures and stories about Dublin on twitter using the hastag #transformyourcity or tweeting @transformingDub, then take a trip to Temple Bar where all of our wildest ruminations displayed on a live poster put together on the day by Making Space and Hato Print & Friends. You can even get stuck in and make your own poster too at one of the riso print demos and poster-making workshops that’ll be happening on the day.
Don’t Look Back
Saturday 15 March | IFI | €10, 4pm
D.A. Pennebakker’s seminal rockumentary Don’t Look Back pretty much invented the genre. It takes in Bob Dylan’s 1965 tour of England and, frankly, it’s all gold. If you haven’t watched it, seek it out.
Details and tickets here.
The Big Upcycle Market
Saturday 15 March | The MART, Rathmines | 11am-6pm
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” – It may be one of the biggest cliché phrases of all time but hey, it’s true! Whether it’s an old dress that just don’t fit like it used to or an antique cabinet that doesn’t quite go with that whole industrial vibe thing your currently going for in your kitchen, there will always be someone willing to take your unwanted stuff off hands and transform it into something new – all it takes is a bit of imagination and maybe a splash of paint or a stitch or two. So why not pop your head into The Big Upcycle Pop Up Market at The Mart in Rathmines (the old fire station) this Saturday where some of Ireland’s best Upcyclers will be selling renewed treasures of all kinds, you might pick up some unique bits and bobs or maybe you’ll think twice before throwing that rusty teapot away ’cause “sometimes you just don’t know what you’ve got til its gone….”
Check out theupcyclemovement.com for more info and make sure to keep an eye out for more events happening at The MART over on their website.

Discotekken’s Acid House Party
Sunday 16 March | Pacino’s, Suffolk St. | €12, 10pm
Advance tickets are needed for this one, because if it’s anything like their NYE Party and their Jungle Book party in recent months, the Acid House Party will sell out before the night. Music on the night is provided by Viennese acid house maestro Tin Man and Carlow’s own TR-One, who Discotekken assure us are mind-numbingly amazing.

Moodyman Grand Social
Monday 17 March | Grand Social | €19.50, 9pm
The inimitable Detroit electronic music veteran Kenny Dixon Jnr., better known as Moodymann, appears at the Grand Social on St. Patrick’s night for what will definitely be one of the headiest parties on a night that already makes the whole town go bonkers. Expect a furious blend of techno and house interspersed with classic soul and jazz samples and tunes from Moodymann’s self-titled album on Mahogani which dropped earlier this year.

Paddy’s at The Shaw
Monday 17 March | The Bernard Shaw | 4pm – 1am

You can catch the Ireland V France screenings on Saturday while sipping on some cool pints of Guinness and Smithwicks for just €3.50 a pop or head over on Sunday at 7pm to tear the place apart looking for one of 4 golden envelopes which contain 2 double passes to Life Festival.
