This most recent effort from acclaimed French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is certainly one of his most interesting efforts. For the first time he has merged the darkness of his earlier films with the quirky human interest stories he has tended towards later in his career.
The film follows a group of whimsical social outcasts who live in a junkyard and join forces to bring down two of the biggest weapons manufacturers in France. This is a highly entertaining farce that is full of charm but drags at times and could definitely be more streamlined.
Having said that, if you enjoyed Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s other films this is of similar high quality and boasts a fantastic performance from lead actor Dany Boon. It also admirably balances silly comedy and a political agenda concerned with gun control. You gotta respect that!
