The suburbs have often been a reference point in an attempt at understanding American culture and are widely explored through the medium of cinema. From the obsolete Bates Motel in Hitchcock’s Psycho to Jim Stark’s disillusionment in Rebel Without a Cause, suburbia gets bad press in the American context.

When we turn to discussion surrounding the cultural impact of suburbia in an Irish setting, it is hard to think of anything beyond the Dart or to a lesser extent the Luas… An Architecturally grounded publication, 2ha aims to broaden our understanding of and inspire an appreciation for the possible in suburban life. Each issue will explore relationships with suburbia and a particular field of study such as typology, language and photography. Format will vary in response to the content and topics covered within each issue. Issue one takes the innovative form of a map and offers an alternative reading of Goatstown and Dundrum – not a sheep skin shoed individual in sight.

Visit the 2ha Fund it site to offer greatly appreciated and much needed support for this laudable project.
