Northside Rising: From The Sackville Lounge To The Celt Bar

Posted 2 days ago in Food & Drink Features

Great to see one of our favourite bars – 1661 – opening a new cocktail bar on the site of one of our favourite old haunts – The Sackville Lounge on Sackville Place.

The crew behind 1661 promise to preserve the building’s heritage – it was rebuilt after the 1916 Rising – while specializing in Irish coffees and classic cocktails.

The old Sackville Lounge was a nugget of the arty Northside set so it’s brilliant to see this happening.

Meanwhile, also in the heart of Dublin 1, plans are currently underway for the launch of a rootin’ and a tootin’ Country and Western Bar located next door to popular Talbot Street musical hostelry The Celt.

The traditional Irish pub made a strong showing in the 2024 Irish Pub Awards, where it was lauded as the Best Music Pub in Dublin.

Owner Noel Tynan hopes that the new spot will be open before June, but acknowledged that this is dependent on a number of factors, beyond his immediate control.

In the meantime visitors are invited to come and enjoy a great bar menu, marvel at the interior and stay for the terrific live music sessions which take place seven days a week.
