Bruxelles Bar, a landmark venue just off Grafton Street, is set to host a special event to honour the 75th birthday of rock legend Phil Lynott on Tuesday, August 20th.
To celebrate what would have been Lynott’s 75th birthday, the hospitable bar, known for its vibrant atmosphere and deep musical heritage, has extended an invitation to all music lovers, Dublin rockers and visitors to join them in a special ‘Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy Appreciation Day’ to commemorate the life and legacy of one of the city’s best loved musicians.
Over the years Bruxelles Bar has been a cornerstone of the Dublin rock scene, serving as a gathering place for some of the greatest names in music history. It is clear that of all the visitors over the decades, the charismatic frontman of Thin Lizzy has clearly left the most indelible mark there.
A statue of Phil Lynott stands proudly outside the bar, while one of his original bass guitars hangs from the ceiling inside. The Flanders Rock Bar, nestled in the basement, is home to a striking mural of Lynott, further cementing his enduring legacy in this iconic Dublin establishment.
In a social media post, a spokesperson for Bruxelles said, “As it’s Phil Lynott’s 75th birthday on Tuesday, August 20th, we wanted to mark the day with a tribute to Phil and Thin Lizzy in Bruxelles. We are always very privileged to be connected to the history of such a legendary and iconic band.”
To commemorate what would have been the legendary musician’s 75th birthday, the soundscape in Flanders Rock Bar will feature back-to-back Thin Lizzy classics throughout the day. A special ‘Thin Lizzy Whiskey Signature Serves’ menu will also be available, while later in the evening DJ Nico will take over the decks from 9pm, playing Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy tracks to keep revellers dancing in the moonlight, with the party going well into the night.
In addition to music and menus, as a special bonus, complimentary tattoo artists will be in the Zodiac bar from 4.30pm to 10.30pm, offering Thin Lizzy flash tattoos to mark the occasion. Tattoos will be done by a professional artist in a sterile environment, with participants required to be 18 years or older and to sign a standard waiver.
