The brilliance of a father is not always apparent in their progeny (sorry, James McCartney). But Femi, firstborn of Fela, has been adding further notes of distinction to his pioneering auld fella’s formidable legacy since the 1980s. Frankly, Femi’s firm grasp on what elevated his father’s work to the position of sacred texts shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering his involvement in Fela’s acclaimed Egypt 80 ensemble. Sure, I can believe it’s not butter. But when you live in world without butter, what’s the use in forcing the comparison?
