Mythical characters, children, animals, and dreamy landscapes come crawling out of a realm of unreal in Ciara O’Hara’s ‘Nowhere Here, Somwhere There’. The multi-media exhibition plays upon the semiotics of folklore and legend, leaving a trail of disjointed narrative and in its wake – intricately scrawled pencil drawings depict boggle-eyed babes and odd, hybrid creatures; beings that somewhat resemble the long-extinct wanderers of an enchanted woodlands, in a very distant place, some aeons ago: nowhere here; somewhere there. Partly informed by a recent artistic residency undertaken in Iceland, the Dublin artist will unroll her off-kilter and thoughtful vision in the Talbot Gallery this month – and we’re looking forward to delving into the gaps of her enchanting story.
