Drawing on themes of youth, adolescence, community, environment and institutions, Mandy O’Neill has been engaging in the dynamics of school life for over a decade. Prompted by an interest in the transitional states of childhood and adolescence, over time, complex questions have surfaced about how important and powerful ideas about having aspirations and access to opportunities can affect children and young people’s expectations. Quiet at the Back draws together previous work Aspiration [2005-2007] Promise [2012-2015], Champions Avenue [2017-2019] along with her latest output The Whole Room Went White [2019].
