On Monday, November 13 th , Art Nude Ireland will launch its inaugural exhibition at 6 pm in Filmbase on Curved Street in Temple Bar. Photographers and models will be showing 50
works.
Ireland has yet to embrace the beauty of nude photography, which is something this exhibition aims to fix. In the first three decades of the 20 th century, fine art nude photography became a distinct form of artistic expression in Europe and North America. Fine art nude work by photographers such as Man Ray, Tina Modotti, and Edward Weston showed that the camera was a powerful tool for artistic expression with the body as its primary motif. During the last 100 years this
genre has developed in breadth and originality.
Fine art nude photography features frequently in private and public art spaces across the Western world, with the exception of Ireland. Art Nude Ireland is a collective of women and men, art photographers and models, who have met and worked together regularly over the last two years to develop this art form.
Members of the collective that are exhibiting work include Vonna Nolan, Paul Brady, and Eamonn Farrell and Douglas Ross who have exhibited and been published both nationally and internationally.
