Napalm Death

Apex Predator – Easy Meat

[Century Media]

After a title track that channels Napalm alumni Justin Broadrick’s Godflesh, the band get back to business, delivering another in a recent run of punishing and innovative death metal records after a slump in the 1990s. The conceptual thrust behind this one sprang from the factory collapse in Bangladesh in 2013 that took the lives of over a thousand slave labourers. Dear Slum Landlords is an interesting deviation from the formula, with a lyrical nod to Swans, whose early output is an unexpected sonic touchstone in the album’s slower moments.
