Chris Potter’s Underground Orchestra

Imaginary Cities

[EMI]

Pushing the envelope has been the hallmark of Grammy-nominated Chris Potter’s distinctive recording career and this latest release Imaginary Cities builds on that hallmark and clearly does not disappoint. Complimenting Potter’s original Underground Quartet is string quartet led by Mark Feldman, two bassists and Potter’s old pal Steve Nelson on the vibes. Keyboardist Craig Taborn and guitarist Adam Rogers have standout solos. Potter, of course, shines throughout. This recording is a breath of fresh air for modern jazz in what is being looked at as the first masterpiece of 2015.
