Los Angeles is back, primarily because of Top Dawg Entertainment’s technical, crypto-conscious rappers, and Absoul is cut from similar cloth to labelmates Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q. He lacks the double-take moments of the former and the charisma of the latter, however, and besides high points like the slow, swaggering Sopa, he struggles to establish a personality worth caring about.
