The first thing to say is I’m really bad at this kind of thing. Anyway this is definitely not a “guide to” the album Freak Waves, or even Sea Pinks, but rather just some stuff I’ve seen and heard lately which you can take or leave or do whatever you like with. Thanks.
- Neil Brogan, Sea Pinks.
A ludicrous film in many ways but not as bad as it’s often made out to be, especially considering how drunk everyone clearly was at the time. One of John Waters favourites too apparently. Nothing much happens, but it looks pretty and it’s by the sea so that’s nice.
The Undertones – It’s Going To Happen (1981)
Fergal Sharkey terrified me as a kid, still does – even his name sounds frightening. He’s especially scary in this. No idea what’s going on here but kind of like how totally uncool it all is and love the overlapping lines in the verse.
The Chills – Doledrums (1984)
For a while there Heavenly Pop Hits was the only cd I had in the car. Then I had to give the car back and that was the end of that. Love the wind machine in this.
Sonic Youth – Death Valley 69 (1985)
I saw Lee Ranaldo walking down the street in Barcelona recently. He looked me right in the eye with a look that said “Yeah, it’s me”. I’m not that into Sonic Youth so I wasn’t really fussed.
Phil Elverum on Twitter (2012) (@PWElverum)
Been enjoying this. Sea Pinks are also on there as of a week or so ago (@sea_pinks), still not sure how I feel about it but you could at least follow and find out.
Hannah Lew – Worms (2012)
A song I like at the moment. Hannah Lew plays in Grass Widow too, just FYI.
Thee Oh Sees – Lupine Dominus (2012)
I can’t think of anything else right now so here’s some Oh Sees to be getting on with anyway.
